Gayle King claimed that Oprah Winfrey did not assist Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in finding their temporary residence in Tyler Perry’s house, despite many reports to the contrary.
Here are some reasons why some believe Oprah helped Harry and Meghan move into Perry’s house and how King rejected those claims.
Many people thought Oprah Winfrey was responsible for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle living in Tyler Perry’s house
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle famously stated in January 2020 that they would no longer be performing royal duties. They are pursuing financial independence from the royal family while dividing their time between the U.S. and the U.K.
Harry stated that the “U.K. is home” in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, but he felt compelled to leave because of a “lack of support and lack of understanding” from his family (per Marie Claire). Rumors of a disagreement between Harry and other royals, particularly his brother, Prince William, over their treatment of Meghan have persisted for years.
Harry and Meghan first resided at a fortified compound that Tyler Perry owned when they first arrived in the United States following the announcement. According to numerous reports, Oprah had connected the pair to the well-known filmmaker.
After a few months of staying at Perry’s $18 million mansion, Meghan, Harry, and their two children moved on by purchasing a $14.65 million estate in Montecito, California.
Gayle King revealed that Oprah Winfrey did not help Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move into Tyler Perry’s house
Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey have been close friends for a long time. She would be the best person to ask about whether Oprah introduced Tyler Perry to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
But King said her friend was not responsible for linking the royal couple to the filmmaker. “Oprah didn’t hook that up. Harry and Meghan know people,” she told ET. “Tyler knows people.
Oprah knows people but she did not make that connection for Harry and Meghan to live in Tyler’s house.”
The former ‘Suits star had never met the filmmaker before moving into his home
Before moving to Tyler Perry’s mansion, Meghan Markle had never met him. However, the movie director had been in touch with her to offer his support when she wed Prince Harry. When Meghan and Harry decided to take a break from their royal responsibilities, she accepted his invitation.
As per Cheatsheet, Perry also provided the pair with a security detail while they were there. A lack of security for their children was a key concern, the parents previously told Oprah Winfrey in an interview.
Perry bought Harry and Meghan a grand piano as a welcoming present when they moved into their Montecito home and told them, “Write the soundtrack for your life.”
The royal couple was “really grateful to Tyler Perry for his kindness,” an insider told People. “They have endless gratitude to him for helping them during a complicated time.”
The source added, “With COVID and as they were stepping back from their royal duties, he provided them a safe haven.”
