Real Reason Behind Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Refusal of Archie’s “Earl of Dumbarton” Title

Real Reason Behind Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Refusal of Archie’s “Earl of Dumbarton” Title

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry understandably are quite concerned about their son, Archie Harrison. Archie has the option of using the title Earl of Dumbarton because he is descended from royals, but Meghan and Harry rejected it because they didn’t want Archie to be teased.

As per the sun, Meghan and Harry also want to protect Archie from being bullied about his titles in addition to trying to keep him out of the public eye.

“They didn’t like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it began with the word ‘dumb’ [and] they were worried about how that might look,” a royal source told The Telegraph. A second source chimed in and added that “it wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it also bothered Harry,” which, IMO, is totally understandable.

For the record, Meghan and Harry wanted Archie to be a prince only for the purpose of protection and security—a move that would have deviated from royal protocol—but the palace was not down with that suggestion. During their tell-all interview with Oprah, Meghan said:

“They were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or princess, which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn’t going to receive security. This went on for the last few months of our pregnancy, where I was going, ‘Hold on for a second.’

They said [he’s not going to get security] because he’s not going to be a prince. Okay, well, he needs to be safe so we’re not saying don’t make him a prince or princess, but if you’re saying the title is what’s going to affect that protection, we haven’t created this monster machine around us in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder. You’ve allowed that to happen, which means our son needs to be safe.”

Archie is referred to as Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor instead of using the Earl of Dumbarton title, which is a far better-sounding (and possibly cooler!) choice.
