Before the couple had even tied the knot, some claimed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s relationship was part of a bizarre plot so the UK could regain control of the US
Many theories have swirled around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship, with some claiming it is part of a bizarre plan to allow the UK to absorb the US.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who married in a star-studded ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018, have two children: Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.
According to Daily Star, before the couple even married, a wild conspiracy theory about their relationship began to circulate online, with some Americans claiming it was all a ruse for the UK to retake control of the US.
Twitter user Greg Pollowitz first shared the idea in November 2017, saying: “What if one grows up to be president and is in line for the throne at the same time? The Brits are playing long-ball here, but it’s a smart move. They want America back and this is how they’ll do it.”
Others were quick to respond, with one person spinning Donald Trump’s infamous slogan, saying: “Make America Great Britain Again”.
Another said: “This is the most credible-post Brexit strategy for the UK that I’ve heard so far.”
America, of course, famously declared independence from Britain in 1776 and went on to have a reasonably successful independent existence.
Since the theory was first shared, Harry and Meghan have resigned as working members of the Royal Family in favor of a life in California, and neither of their children is expected to ascend the throne. Prince William is now first in line to the throne, Harry is fifth, and his children are sixth and seventh.
However, it has been reported that Meghan Markle may have her sights set on becoming America’s first female president, with talk of her ambition dating back to a “secret” meeting with Hillary Clinton at Frogmore Cottage in 2019.
Meghan Markle has been the target of some strange conspiracy theories over the years.
Earlier this week, some royal fans were convinced that the Duchess was a spy due to a strange shape in her dress.
The strange comments are in response to an image of Prince Harry’s wife taken during a walkabout outside Windsor Castle over the weekend, where she met hundreds of mourners paying tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.
Her unassuming appearance, which has received praise, has been investigated more than most royal appearances. During that investigation, a new conspiracy theory emerged.
While pregnant with the couple’s first son Archie, some claimed that Meghan was faking her pregnancy.
