Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, appeared to be at an impasse for the past couple of years, and the finger was always pointed at Meghan Markle.
According to some media outlets, the American actress played the most important role of her life: the powerful and seductive villain who destroyed the relationship between two brothers and caused chaos in the British Monarchy.
However, a new book claims that the situation is more complicated and nuanced.
Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, and author, zoomed in on the real reason for the schism between Prince William and Prince Harry in her new bombshell book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, and it runs deep.
The royal author revealed that, while Prince William and Prince Harry’s bond is broken, Markle is not the main reason the couple is in conflict.
The writer critiques the feud for her readers, revealing that Prince William is primarily outraged at Prince Harry because he is now forced to stand alone and bear the burden of being the heir to the British throne more or less alone.
The book claims that Prince William grew up believing he could always rely on Prince Harry. Prince William needed the younger brother’s ear to express his concerns and uncertainties about royal life.
Prince Harry also had shoulders on which Prince William could lean during difficult times in the Monarchy.
Nicholl shared: “William simply can’t forgive [Harry], not just for his behavior and what he’s done and how he’s done it, but look at how much now rests on William. He always thought Harry would be his wingman. Now he’s doing it on his own. Thank goodness he’s got Kate by his side.”
She went on to detail how Prince Harry’s decision to move to Californian unraveled Prince William’s plans.
She claimed: “There have been real repercussions, particularly for William, whose young family has been thrust into the spotlight prematurely. He always expected Harry would be his wingman; there was a long-term plan in place for the brothers to work together and support one another.”
The reporter claims that Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, were delighted to learn of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s permanent departure from London.
She shared: “After Harry announced their departure, William summoned aides to address the future in what has been referred to by some in William’s circle as the ‘Anmer Summit. But William and Kate [Middleton] also felt a sense of relief that ‘the drama was gone’ when Harry and Meghan left, as a source told me. To this day, William still cannot forgive his brother.”
The brothers are now trying to move forward.
