Kim Kardashian is facing sharp criticism from animal rights group PETA after revealing that she gifted each of her four children a Pomeranian puppy for Christmas. What began as a festive family moment quickly sparked backlash online, with PETA’s founder calling the gesture irresponsible amid what she described as a growing homeless animal crisis.
“Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of the organization, told the Daily Mail on Sunday.
“Ignoring the homeless animals crisis is inexcusably callous,” Newkirk added, urging the SKIMS founder to call PETA or a local shelter the next time [she] wants to bring an animal into [her] home.”

Newkirk also suggested Kardashian could take steps to repair the damage. She said the reality star can “make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter.” In addition, she proposed that Kardashian fund “a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.”
The backlash followed Kardashian’s Instagram Stories post showing four puppies cuddled together. “Each kid got a puppy,” she wrote over the photo, which quickly circulated across social media platforms.
The 45-year-old Kim Kardashian shares her four children, North West, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6, with her ex-husband Kanye West. While many fans reacted positively to the adorable image, others echoed PETA’s concerns, questioning the decision to purchase pets rather than adopt.

Newkirk also extended her criticism to Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian, who recently welcomed a black Labrador puppy into her family. The Good American co-founder shares daughter True, 7, and son Tatum, 3, with her ex Tristan Thompson.
Aside from the puppy post, Kardashian shared a polished family photo shoot of her children wearing Christmas pajamas from her brand SKIMS. The Kardashian-Jenner family also celebrated Christmas Eve with what Khloé described as “just family.”
The intimate gathering was hosted for the second year in a row by Kendall Jenner at her home in Beverly Hills. The family reportedly opted for a quieter celebration after hosting Kris Jenner’s milestone birthday party earlier this year.
