Country music fans got an emotional update this week when singer Colter Wall shared a deeply personal message explaining why he is stepping away from the stage for now.
The 30 year old artist posted the announcement on Facebook, letting fans know that the remaining dates on his tour have been canceled and that he plans to take an indefinite break from performing live. In his message, Wall thanked supporters first before explaining what has been happening behind the scenes.
“Myself and the band and the crew are very grateful for the privilege to play music together for you,” he wrote on Facebook. “We thank you for it.
“The truth is that I am mentally unwell,” he continued. “Despite this, I have pushed myself to continue with touring. As a result my mental health has only further declined. After discussion with my team, we have decided to cancel the remaining shows and take an indefinite hiatus from live music.
“Thank you for your understanding and support,” he closed by writing. “Tickets will be refunded automatically from original point of purchase.”
Fans quickly filled the comments with supportive messages, praising Wall for being open about his struggles and encouraging him to focus on getting better.
“Do what you’ve got to do for yourself,” Kody Hendley wrote. “We’ll be here when you’re ready.”
“Please look after your own health first and foremost,” Carolyn Day wrote.
“God on you for talking about it,” Jesse Dean wrote. “Men’s mental health tends to get swept under the rug. Get better and enjoy life brother.”
“Get well soon buddy,” Rhysie Rhys wrote. “Kudos for being honest. All the love in the world to you, Plainsman.”
“So sorry to hear you are struggling, but it’s good to hear you are prioritizing your health,” Kelly Huber wrote. “Be well, sir.”
Wall had been touring in support of his latest album “Memories and Empties,” according to Parade Magazine. The record, released in November, is his fifth studio album.
The singer songwriter is originally from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and is the son of former Canadian politician Brad Wall. He first gained attention in the country and folk world with his 2015 EP “Imaginary Appalachia,” followed by his self titled debut album in 2017.
Over the years, Wall has built a loyal following for his deep voice and traditional country sound. For now, though, he is stepping away from the road as he focuses on his health.
Fans across social media made it clear they are willing to wait as long as it takes.
