Amy Schumer files for divorce from her Husband Chris Fischer after seven years of marriage

Amy Schumer has formally filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Chris Fischer, according to newly filed court documents in New York. The filing confirms what the comedian publicly shared weeks earlier and offers a clearer picture of a breakup she has consistently described as mutual and respectful.

The divorce paperwork was submitted earlier this week and confirmed by Fox News, marking the first official legal step toward ending the marriage. Schumer, 44, initially announced the split last month through social media, telling fans that the decision was difficult but made with care and intention.

Despite the personal upheaval, Schumer has struck an optimistic tone. As the new year began, she shared a series of candid bikini photos on Instagram, declaring 2026 her year of “self care and self love.” In the post, she emphasized authenticity, noting that the images were unfiltered and makeup-free, some taken by her mother while packing for a trip.

“My mum took these photos of me while I was packing,” Schumer wrote. “This year is about self care and self love. No makeup. No filter. Let’s appreciate our health, our families, our friends, and have the best year of our lives.”

While Schumer’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment following the court filing, the comedian has been unusually open about the emotional landscape surrounding the breakup. In December, she described the separation as “amicable and all love and respect,” adding that she and Fischer remain united in their commitment to raising their son.

“We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son,” she wrote at the time, asking for privacy as they adjusted to the change.

True to her comedic voice, Schumer also pushed back on public speculation about the reasons behind the split. She joked that the breakup had nothing to do with weight loss or ambition, nor was it driven by Fischer’s success as a James Beard Award-winning chef. “Family forever,” she concluded, reinforcing that their bond as parents remains intact.

Hints of strain had surfaced even earlier. In a since-deleted Instagram video posted last month, Schumer alluded to uncertainty in her marriage while her young son filmed a playful “bedroom tour” of their home. “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she wrote, adding, “fingers crossed we make it — he’s the best.”

Schumer and Fischer’s relationship moved quickly from the start. They were first linked romantically in late 2017 and surprised fans by announcing their marriage just days after going public with their relationship in February 2018. Later that year, the couple revealed they were expecting their first child, welcoming their son, Gene, in May 2019.

Now, as the legal process unfolds, Schumer appears focused on stability, healing, and redefining this next chapter on her own terms. While the divorce filing makes the split official, her message has remained consistent: the end of the marriage does not mean the end of their family.
