Britney Spears has spoken candidly about the emotional scars she says were left by her family, sharing a raw message with fans in a lengthy Instagram post.
The 44-year-old pop icon took to social media on Wednesday to reflect on what she described as years of isolation and mistreatment, saying she now feels “lucky to be alive” after everything she has endured.
“As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone,” Spears began. “For those of you in your family that have said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out … they were wrong.”
The singer continued by suggesting that being cut off from loved ones can cause lasting damage, even if forgiveness is possible. “We can forgive as people, but u don’t ever forget. Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial!!!” she wrote.

Spears then made one of her most personal statements yet, claiming that her family’s treatment of her has left her fearful. “I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my lif,e and now I’m scared of them,” she said.
“It’s weird how God works in mysterious ways,” added the star, before turning to her followers with a reflective question. “My friends, what do you think he is saying today ???” she asked.
Spears went on to suggest she believes those closest to her still refuse to acknowledge their role in her pain. “Because to be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did,” she wrote.
The post struck an emotional tone, but Spears ended her caption with a more casual update about her current health. She revealed she has been unable to dance recently after injuring herself.
Concluding her message, she wrote that she hadn’t “danced in a month. I broke my toe twice!” Spears’ comments arrive as she continues to speak publicly about the aftermath of her highly publicized conservatorship, which controlled her life for more than a decade.
According to People, Spears was placed under a 13-year conservatorship overseen by her father, Jamie Spears. The arrangement granted him control over her finances, career decisions, and many aspects of her personal life until it was terminated in 2021 following the global #FreeBritney movement and intense legal scrutiny.
In recent months, Spears has made further allegations about her experience during that period. She previously claimed her father gave her a “very strong” drug when she was not cooperating during rehearsals tied to her 2018 Piece of Me tour and Las Vegas residency.
The latest Instagram post appears to reflect lingering trauma from those years, as Spears continues to share fragments of her recovery and personal reflections online.
While she did not name specific family members in her most recent message, her words made clear she believes the emotional damage remains unresolved.
For many fans, the post is another sign that Spears is still processing the pain of her past, even as she tries to rebuild her life on her own terms.
